Training & Development

Seaspan Ship Management Ltd. has a variety of training programs designed to build employees’ capabilities and skills while improving safety and security onboard our vessels. We encourage internal development and promotion of all of our employees, and conduct frequent training initiatives to further their professional growth.

In order to ensure that the quality of training follows the highest standards and meets the requirements of all seafarers, Seaspan provides the following types of training:

  • Pre-joining training
  • Continuous onboard training
  • Cadet Training Program—to mentor new seafarers
  • Competency Management System—shipboard procedures and work instructions in compliance with International Safety Management  (IMO) standards
  • Navigation/engineering refresher courses
  • MTC Shiphandling and Manoeuvring of Very Large Container Ships training—for those preparing to sail on our new 13100 TEU vessels

Seaspan’s Company Operating Procedures E-Learning System  (COPES) enables us to share training and critical information with our global seafarers at home or in the office. Information is available to our employees at any time. The system helps Seaspan motivate employees, while also providing them with the adequate training required onboard.
